1. Why your quilt needs regular cleaning
After 2 or 3 years use your quilt almost certainly needs cleaning and rejuvenating. The average double bed quilt has up to an incredible 700 litres of body fluid pass through it, causing the feather and down filling to 'clump' together or gather in corners. The result: your quilt no longer keeps you warm as it did when it was new.
2.Asthma and Allergies
The 'clumped together' filling is a scientifically proven breeding ground for house dust mites. These microscopic creatures release powerful allergens which have been proven to be important triggers in asthma attacks, eczema, hay fever, irritated sinuses and sneezing attacks in sensitive people.
3.Broken Filling
The soiled filling becomes brittle, causing tiny feather shafts to snap and break, leaving a residue of grit and dust particles in your quilt. This means it no longer has the same 'loft', holds less air and makes your quilt flatter and colder
4.Economic and Environmental
Rejuvenation means your quilt is not scrapped, and the casing and filling reused instead of wasted. Rejuvenating every 3-5 years gives quilts a new warmth and years of extended life
5.Hygienic Processes
First, your quilt casing is opened, the filling removed, then dusted and sorted in our machines. The damaged feathers and dust which have no thermal quality are removed. If your quilt is beyond rejuvenation we will advise you
6.Steam Cleaning
The remaining filling is then steam cleaned to kill all bacteria and dust mites and remove all body fat and oils. Antistatic, antibacterial and deodorisors are added to prevent 'clumping', to stop bacteria forming again in your quilt, and to remove any musty odour.
7.Lofting, Drying, Topping Up
The clean filling is then relofted to restore its thermal capacity, and topped up with new filling of the same or greater down content. This is your chance to add more Down to the Quilt or Sleeping Bag. You can even have one side of the quilt warmer than another! It's called the 'Marriage Saver'
8.Laundering not Drycleaning
The quilt casing,(which can often be quite badly stained), is then laundered with stain remover, second washed with fabric softener, triple rinsed and dried. Because it is laundered, no dry cleaning chemicals are used, which can be irritating to many sensitive skins and sinuses. Heavily stained casings can be replaced with new, pure cotton japara casing if you wish.
9.Refilled and Customised
Your relofted and topped up filling is then blown back into the quilt. At this stage your quilt can be customised for you to make one side warmer or cooler than the other to suit your individual sleeping needs.
10.Quality Guaranteed
The casing is then re-sewn with special macro stitching to prevent the filling from escaping. It is then hygienically packed and your quilt is returned to you with the Quilt and Pillow Factory's Quality Guarantee.
